🚀 General Overview

What is Mochi?

Mochi is Maki’s AI-powered screening agent. The phone version autonomously calls candidates, asks questions about eligibility and experience, and provides structured results to help you shortlist more quickly and fairly.

The web version allows you to perform AI-powered video screenings online.

How long does a typical screening last?

Calls usually take around 10 minutes. The format is short and conversational, designed to filter key criteria before offering a full assessment.

How is a phone/video screen different from an assessment?

Phone screens are brief and conversational. Assessments are longer (around 20 minutes), more skill-focused, and include enhanced proctoring to detect cheating.

💡 Tip

Use Mochi to pre-filter candidates quickly, then invite top performers to full assessments.

What types of skills should Mochi assess?

Mochi is ideal for:

  • Structured interview questions on soft skills (e.g., teamwork, motivation).

  • Administrative questions (e.g., availability, location, work eligibility).

Shiro is best for technical, cognitive, or role-specific testing.

👤 Candidate Experience

How can I support a candidate who does not wish to be screened by AI?

Depending on local laws and legislation, it is likely you would need to provide the option of a human-led screening interview, should a candidate opt-out of the AI screening.

Do candidates know they’re speaking to AI?

Yes. Mochi clearly introduces itself either via SMS for phone screenings, or via email for the web-based screening.

What types of questions are asked?

Mochi asks straightforward questions - about availability, work eligibility, or relevant experience. You also have the option to add activity style questions to your candidates, which will focus more on testing certain skills through behavioral-type questions.

Can candidates change the language during the call?

Mochi currently supports English, French, Spanish, German, and Italian. Candidates can switch languages during the call if they prefer, however this would need to be agreed upon and set up beforehand by the Talent Acquisition team.

We can also introduce the following languages as per client requests: Japanese, Chinese, Hindi, Korean, Portuguese, Dutch, Turkish, Filipino, Polish, Swedish, Bulgarian, Romanian, Arabic, Czech, Greek, Finnish, Croatian, Malay, Slovak, Danish, Tamil, Ukrainian and Russian.

Which language variations are supported?

English - American, British, Australian, Canadian

French - France, Canadian

Portuguese - Brazilian, European

Arabic - Saudi, UAE

Spanish - Spain, Mexican

Can candidates complete this screening online vs via phone call?

Mochi is also available as a web-based screening, provided this option is included in your contract. The format (web or phone) is defined during the design stage, and candidates cannot switch between the two within the same screening.

What’s the difference between phone and web screening?

Phone Screening:

  • Candidate receives an SMS invitation.

  • Once confirmed, the call is triggered and starts when the candidate picks up.

  • Candidate answers verbally; the call ends when either side hangs up.

Web Screening:

  • Candidate receives an email with a link.

  • Before starting, they configure their hardware (microphone, camera if needed).

  • Candidate answers verbally in-browser; the call ends with a success screen.

Results for both: Recruiters see structured scores, transcripts, and status in the recruiter app.

Will Mochi ask about sensitive topics?

No. Dynamic guardrails are in place to prevent inappropriate or personal questions (e.g., about health or religion). If a topic does arise, it’s flagged but not pursued.

💼 Compliance, Legal & Ethics

Is AI phone screening legally compliant?

Yes. Maki ensures compliance by informing candidates and requesting consent. Final hiring decisions are always made by a human.

Can Mochi automatically reject a candidate?

Recruiters can enable objective filters (e.g., work eligibility, certifications, language level) at design stage to streamline screening, but all automation is configurable and can be overridden. Final hiring decisions are always made by humans, never solely by AI.

How is sensitive data handled?

Mochi avoids asking sensitive questions. Conversations are securely stored and reviewed only by your hiring team.

📲 Technical Capabilities

Can Mochi handle large volumes?

Yes. Mochi can handle up to 30 interviews simultaneously.

Can the AI give incorrect or confusing responses?

Very rarely. Mochi may occasionally lose track of the conversation, but it never invents false information or gives inappropriate responses. All calls are monitored and constantly improved.

💡 Tip

If you spot a confusing exchange, review the transcript and flag it to our team at [email protected]

Can Mochi connect directly to our applicant tracking system (ATS)?

We’re actively expanding our ATS integrations. Mochi is currently in the process of integrating with Talos (expected October 2025). Next in line is iCIMS, planned for December (timeline to be confirmed). Additional integrations will follow based on client needs and priorities.

📈 Results and Data

Can I bulk filter candidates based on answers?

Recruiters can filter candidates based on evaluation results and scores, but Mochi does not support automatic bulk rejection. All filtering is intended to support human decision-making, not replace it, ensuring a fair and transparent process.

Are full transcripts available?

Yes. Recruiters can access, replay, and use transcripts, which are also planned to become queryable for future data mining (e.g., trend analysis).

🌟 Product Features

Are the activity scores saved for 6 months, as it with assessments?

Not yet. Score retention is planned but currently not available for phone screenings.

Can I include scoring in the phone screen?

Yes. You can add evaluation elements directly to the call flow.

Can I use custom activities or generate new ones?

Not yet. Recruiters select from a curated list of validated activities. AI-generated content is being explored but not currently supported.

How many skill-based questions should I include in Mochi?

We recommend no more than two activities per screening to keep the conversation concise and candidate-friendly.

🚗 Roadmap

Can I use Mochi to assess spoken language?

Soon, you will be able to successfully assess spoken language skills with Mochi. More on this to come.
