At Maki, privacy is one of our top priority. We understand that for candidates providing personal information can be daunting especially in today’s digital age where data security is a significant concern. This is why we want to be as transparent as possible about the demographic information we collect, how it is used and who has access to it. Our main goal is to ensure the candidates that the data shared with us is safe.

Additionally, we also want to ensure the recruiters that we can actually gather demographics data from candidates and that these questions are perfectly legal and entirely appropriate to ask. Candidates can answer voluntarily if they want to and the information provided will be confidential and used strictly for the purposes highlighted in this article.

What demographics are we collecting?

To create a fair and inclusive recruitment process, below is the information we are collecting from the candidates:

  • Country of residence

  • Age

  • Gender

  • Ethnicity

  • Any impairments or disabilities

  • Education level

  • Years of work experience

  • (Foreign) language proficiency

How are we collecting the data?

We collect the demographics information after the candidates completed the assessment. Candidates may opt out of the questions by clicking on Skip if they don’t feel like answering or sharing their personal information with us.

On top of that, candidates who started the assessment are informed of our privacy policy which also states that the data to be collected are carefully hosted and manipulated.

Who has access to the demographic data?

The candidate’s demographic data is kept highly confidential and only Maki has direct access to it. We don't share this data easily. When recruiters ask for it, we give them summarized or anonymous data to protect individual identities.

Why are we collecting demographics?

We collect demographics data in order to improve the candidate’s experience based on the following factors:

Ensuring Fair and Unbiased Assessments

  • Based on the demographics we collected, we can refine our assessments to be fair and unbiased, ensuring that everyone has an equal opportunity to the roles presented or being offered by understanding the demographics of the candidates taking the assessments.

Enhancing user experience

  • Demographic data also allows us to understand different user experiences which helps us improve our services and provide a better experience to everyone.

Equal opportunity monitoring

  • It helps us ensure that the recruitment process is fair and non-discriminatory and promotes equality across all candidates.

Promoting diversity and inclusion

  • Collecting demographic data demonstrates our commitment to diversity and inclusivity. It allows us to gain insights into cultural diversity to enhance our reputation.

Your privacy matters

Rest assured that your data is safe with us. We are committed to only using your demographics information solely for the purposes mentioned above and nothing else. By participating in our surveys, you contribute to a more inclusive and supportive workplace for everyone.

If you are a candidate and if in any case, you are not comfortable with any of the data we have collected, we can help delete your personal information in our system by sending an email to [email protected]. We have also put together an article that describes this process in detail. Just click on this link.
