When an assessment includes a document upload activity, candidates are asked to submit a file directly through the Maki platform. This article outlines the technical constraints that apply to this activity type, so you can set accurate expectations with candidates and troubleshoot upload issues quickly.
💡Tip. If a candidate reports that their file was rejected or that the upload button is unavailable, the most likely cause is an unsupported file format or a file that exceeds the size limit.
1. File size limit
The maximum accepted file size is 500 MB per upload. Files exceeding this limit cannot be submitted and will be rejected at the point of upload.
2. Number of files per question
Each document upload question accepts one file only. Candidates cannot attach multiple files to a single question. If the activity requires several documents, they should be combined into a single file (e.g. a ZIP or a multi-page PDF) before uploading.
3. Accepted file formats
The following file formats are supported:
Documents: PDF, Word (.doc / .docx), OpenDocument Text (.odt)
Spreadsheets: Excel (.xls / .xlsx), OpenDocument Spreadsheet (.ods)
Presentations: PowerPoint (.ppt / .pptx), OpenDocument Presentation (.odp)
Data files: CSV
Archives: ZIP, RAR
4. File formats that are not accepted
Images and all other file types are not accepted for document upload activities. This includes formats such as .jpg, .png, .gif, .mp4, .mp3, and others not listed above.
