In today's competitive job market, the ability for candidates to retake assessments is highly beneficial for both job seekers and employers. Candidates may need to retake tests due to several reasons such as a desire to improve their scores, or to demonstrate newly acquired skills. For employers, offering retakes can help identify the best candidates and provide a better overall experience by allowing them to showcase their most up to date abilities. This approach results in a more comprehensive evaluation of a candidate's skills and streamlines the hiring process, making it more equitable and efficient for all parties involved.

By default, the duration to retake an activity is set to 6 months. However, to improve the candidate experience and help recruiters more accurately assess candidates' skills, Maki allows recruiters to adjust the validity period of an activity. This enables candidates to retake activities as needed, providing greater flexibility for both recruiters and candidates.

Understanding the Difference: Assessment vs. Activity in Maki

Before diving into the details of the new retake feature, it’s important to understand the distinction between an assessment and an activity within Maki:

  • Activity: A single test designed to evaluate a specific skill or competency (e.g., a typing test or spoken language proficiency test).

  • Assessment: A compilation of multiple activities that together provide a comprehensive evaluation of a candidate's abilities.

For example, an assessment could include both a typing test and a spoken language proficiency activity to gauge a candidate's overall communication skills.

How the Activity Retake Works

The retake feature is designed to be straightforward and flexible:

  1. Set the Validity of an Activity: Recruiters can now specify how long an activity's results remain valid. This could be any duration based on the recruiter's needs.

  2. Retake After Validity Expiration: Once the validity period has expired, candidates are eligible to retake the activity. This means candidates don't have to wait for six months but can retake as soon as the set period is over.

  3. Preservation of Scores: Both the original and new scores are saved. This allows recruiters to see the candidate's progress over time and compare performance across different attempts.

A standout feature of this enhancement is the ability to retake individual activities within a broader assessment. Let’s consider an example for clarity:

  • An assessment comprises two activities: a typing test and a spoken language proficiency activity.

  • If a candidate performs well in the spoken language proficiency activity but fails the typing test, the recruiter can create a retake assessment with just the typing test.

  • The candidate can then retake only the typing test without having to redo the entire assessment.

This targeted retake approach not only saves time but also focuses on the specific areas where improvement is needed.

❗️Take note that the activity retake feature is not available to be activated in the platform. You will have to let us know which activities you would like to update the validity of and our team will make the changes in the back end.
